More Weight

“The number of teachers hired for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program would be doubled in three years...”

As the old saying goes, “Quality not something something I forget the rest fuck it let’s just throw money at the problem.”

English Composition 101: Critical Feedback
At the very least, the first part of a sentence should bear some vague relation to that which follows.

“The LDP views the use of native English speakers as vital to improving English-speaking ability at a time when it is moving toward making a passing score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language mandatory for entering and graduating from college.

Look, here. It's all here. And here. I just can't any more.

  2. On the bright side, the programme did get me four-million yen/year and more frequently laid than in university. Wasn't that the point...?

"Don’t reinforce failure", is the quote everyone remembers, even if they never read Clausewitz themselves. It's a better quotation than most realize, because there is a second part: "unless the stakes are so high you have no better choice." Forget 'would' 'should' and stick with 'could': there is no better choice for Japan, because they cannot conceive of one. Education in Japan is like health care and gun control for Americans: there's any number of places to look for better results, mainly in Dutch and Nordic Europe as always, but both countries are incapable of stepping out of their self-referential cultures to give their heads a shake.

    1. There's nothing I could usefully add to this, to be honest. At least not without embarking on (another) rant. So I'll just say yes, and thanks for the comment.

  3. Some days I wish I would have picked a second home less prone to self-inflicted catastrophe. Being a Japanophile is a bit like supporting Newcastle, or the Chicago Cubs. It boggles the mind that Japan could once have been considered #1,(Thanks, Ezra Vogel!) unless collective policy-making intelligence there has a half-life.

    2. In their defense, no Wolves supporter (that I know of) has punched a police horse in an alcohol and losing induced rage.
